Summary of Case:

"General Dragoljub Mihailovic, also known as Draza Mihailovic, was a Serbian guerrilla commander convicted of treason by Communists in July 1946 for his collaboration with Nazis during World War II. Mihailovic was sentenced to death and executed by a firing squad. In 1941 Mihailovic was a Yugoslav royal army officer when he launched a resistance movement against German occupation. As fighting against the Axis Powers devolved into a bitter civil war, Mihailovic turned against communist guerrillas led by Josip Broz Tito. In 1946, with Tito in control of postwar Yugoslavia, Mihailovic was captured and tried. He was found guilty of war crimes, collaborating with the Axis Powers, and agreeing a cease-fire with the Nazis. Mihailovic was reportedly shot on Belgrade's Ada Island and buried in an unmarked grave. In 1948, U.S. President Harry Truman posthumously awarded Mihailovic the Legion of Merit for his role in rescuing hundreds of U.S. airmen downed by the Nazis over Serbia. In 2010, Mihailovic's grandson, Vojislav, petitioned the courts for his legal rehabilitation, arguing that Mihailovic had fought Nazis, communists, and Nazi collaborators until the Allied victory. On May 14, 2015 the Higher Court of Belgrade postumously rehabilitated Mihailovic by ruling his convictions are "null and void." The ruling is final and cannot be appealed."
