Summary of Case:

"Jerry Miller was wrongly convicted of rape in 1982 based on the eyewitness identification of the victim. Miller was sentenced to 45 years in prison. He was released on parole in 2006 after 24 years of imprisonment. The Cook County State's Attorney's motion to dismiss the charges was granted on April 23, 2007 after DNA tests unavailable at the time of his trial excluded him as the rapist. On October 30, 2008 Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich pardoned Miller on the basis of his actual innocence. Miller was awarded wrongful imprisonment compensation of $199,000 by the State of Illinois. Miller filed a federal civil rights lawsuit that named the City of Chicago and officers involved in his prosecution, which was settled in 2011 for $6,300,000."
