Summary of Case:

"Jeffrey L. Brown, Khalid Dervic, Richard Hodges and Theotis Miller were the first of 40 defendants to appear in court whose drug convictions the Cuyahoga County District Attorney filed a motion to dismiss in December 2016. The DA moved to dismiss the cases because they were based on the testimony of corrupt East Cleveland, Ohio detectives who planted evidence, obtained search warrants with false statements, and stole money from people they arrested. The three officers, Sgt. Torris Moore and detectives Antonio Malone and Eric Jones, each pled guilty to federal corruption-related crimes in 2015. Moore was ringleader of the scheme, and he was sentenced to nine years in federal prison. The convictions of Jeffrey Brown, Dervic, Hodges, and Miller were by-way of their guilty plea in separate prosecutions. On December 29, 2016 motions by the four defendants to withdraw their guilty pleas was granted, and the DA's motion to dismiss the charges against them was granted. As of April 2017, 43 defendants whose convictions were based on evidence provided by the three corrupt East Cleveland Police Officers had been exonerated."
