Summary of Case:	"Wrongly convicted in 1986 of assault related to the death of his wife in Japan in 1982 from injuries suffered after her shooting in November 1981 while the Japanese businessman and his wife were vacationing in Los Angeles. Kazuyoshi Miura was shot in the leg during the assault in a parking garage. Prosecutors speculated that he was reponsible for her death to collect 160 million yen in life insurance (US$701,000 at the exchange rate of 0.0043820 on February 1, 1982). Miura was prosecuted for assault and murder after he returned to Japan. He was acquitted of murder. In 2001 Muira's conviction was overturned on appeal and he was released on bail. After a retrial he was acquitted in 2003. He was wrongly imprisoned for 15 years. Miura's case was covered sensationally by the Japanese media, and in an April 2004 interview published in Japan Times he estimated that he had won 80% of about 200 cases he filed for invasion of privacy or defamation, and that he had been awarded a total of around 100 million yen in damages (US$848,000 at the exchange rate of 0.0084770 on April 1, 2004.)"
