Summary of Case:

"Feisal Ali Mohammed was wrongly convicted on July 22, 2016 of wildlife trafficking in Kenya. Mohammed was a Mombasa businessman and his prosecution was based on the allegation that on June 5, 2014 he was found in possession of wildlife trophies and dealing with them unlawfully. Mohammed's case was Kenya's first high-profile wildlife trafficking case. After his conviction Mohammed was sentenced to 20 years in prison. On August 3, 2018 the High Court quashed Mohammed's convictions on the basis of insufficient evidence of his guilt. High Court judge Dorah Chepkwony ruling stated: "The sentence that was imposed by the trial court was unconstitutional and therefore the same is set aside. There was no evidence of any ornaments having been recovered from the scene or the manufacture of any such thing found in progress at the alleged scene of crime.” Mohammed was released after more than two years in custody."
