Summary of Case:

"Anthony Moore was co-defendant of Marvin Brown. Wrongly convicted in 1996 of the 1992 murder of a retired NYC police officer during an armed robbery, based on his false confession to the crime. Anthony Moore was convicted based on his confession to the crime. He was sentenced in April 1996 to 25 years to life in prison. However, In late 1997 three other men were identified as the actual culprits of the crime. Moore's co-defendant, Marvin Brown, was awaiting trial when the charges were dismissed and he was released on January 14, 1998. Brown's charges were based on Moore implicating him as the shooter in his confession, and two eyewitnesses in the store erroneously identifying him as the shooter three months after the crime. Moore's conviction was vacated in early 1998 based on the new evidence he wasn't involved in the murder. In an ironic twist, one of the actual perpetrators attempted to have his conviction overturned because the trial judge refused to allow the jury to be told that Brown had been charged with the crime, and that Moore had been convicted after confessing. The NY state courts rejected the argument, as did the federal district court in the prisoner's federal habeas corpus petition."
