Summary of Case:	"William Mark Muelller was wrongly convicted on August 13, 1986 of cocaine trafficking in Warren County, Ohio. William Mueller was sentenced to two years in prison. On June 1, 1987, Mueller’s conviction was reversed by the Ohio Court of Appeals based on the prosecution's failure to introduce sufficient evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and ordered the charges dismissed. The Court ruled none of the prosecution's evidence linked Mueller to the possession, shipment or distribution of cocaine -- only that he knew people who were involved in those activies. The Court's ruling stated: "A conviction cannot rest upon guilt by association.” After his release from prison Mueller filed a lawsuit Ohio's wrongful imprisonment compensation statute. On May 16, 1990 the Ohio Court of Claims awarded Mueller $56,245.39 in compensation."
