Summary of Case:

"William Mullins-Johnson was wrongly convicted in 1994 of murdering his four-year-old niece in 1993 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. Mullins-Johnson was convicted primarily based on the testimony of Pathologist Dr. Charles Smith that the girl had been sexually assaulted and strangled. Mullins-Johnson was released on bail in 2005 after he filed an appeal based on new evidence that the girl may have died of natural causes. In October 2007 the Ontario Court of Appeal overturned his conviction and ordered his acquittal. In October 2010 the Ontario government announced that it was awarding Mullins-Johnson CAN$4.25 million in compensation."

Questionable testimony by a prosecution pathologist that the girl had been sexually assaulted and strangled.

In October 2007 the Ontario Court of Appeal overturned his conviction and ordered his acquittal based on new forensic evidence the girl's death was natural and no crime occurred.
