Summary of Case:	"R. U. Muraleedharan was wrongly convicted of an attempt to culpable homicide when he got into a fight on September 27, 2004 over a neighbor's use of his motorcycle registration number to file a false motor accident claim. Muraleedharan, an employee of the Changaramkari temple in Mararikulam, India, was sentenced to three years in prison and fined Rs 10,000 (US$158). A post-conviction report by the Inspector General determined that Muraleedharan did not inflict a life-threatening injury and so he was erroneously charged with an attempt to culpable homicide. Based on that report the division bench quashed the case against Muraleedharan in July 2011. Muraleedharan filed a claim for compensation for his wrongful imprisonment, and in November 2013 the High Court ordered the chief secretary and director-general of police in Charamangalam, Alappuzha, India to file affidavits on the compensation to be paid Muraleedharan."
