Summary of Case:	"Lionel Murphy was wrongly convicted in July 1985 of perverting the course of justice. At the time of his prosecution he was a High Court judge in Australia. The primary allegation against Murphy was he improperly tried to influence decision-making by a magistrate and a judge in a case involving a solicitor Murphy had known for many years. That solicitor had represented a major organised crime figure. Members of the jury began to tell media outlets, Murphy’s legal team, and others, that they did not think he was guilty, and they convicted him based on misunderstood directions from the trial judge. Murphy's conviction was quashed on appeal. After his retrial in April 1986 Murphy was acquitted. Murphy was reimbursed AUS$420,473 in costs he had incurred. Murphy died on October 21, 1986."
