Summary of Case:	"Michelle Murphy was wrongly convicted in 1995 of first-degree murder in the death of her 15-week-old son Travis on September 12, 1994 in their Tulsa, Oklahoma apartment. Travis had been stabbed to death in the kitchen. After hours of interrogation Murphy confessed that she accidentally stabbed Travis while she and another woman were arguing. After her conviction by a jury, Murphy was sentenced to life in prison. In 2014 Murphy's conviction was overturned based on exculpatory post-conviction DNA testing, and she was released on May 30, 2014 after 20 years in custody. A motion by the Tulsa County District Attorney to dismiss the charges was granted on September 12, 2014. Murphy was awarded $175,000 in compensation by the State of Oklahoma in 2015. Murphy filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in September 2015 that named the City of Tulsa as a defendant. As of April 2017 the lawsuit was pending."
