Summary of Case: |
"Alesi Nalave was co-defendant of Kelera Marama. Both women pressured by the police into confessing to a June 2005 murder of a woman during the robbery of $10 from her. Their trial ruled the confessions would be admissible and the women pled guilty. The attempted to withdraw their guilty pleas, claiming they were false, but after the court denied their motion they were both sentenced to life in prison in September 2007. The Court of Appeal ruled in October 2008 that the women experienced a miscarriage of justice and quashed their convictions, because "The circumstances in which the appellants pleaded guilty raise serious doubts in our minds about the genuineness of their guilt."" |
