Summary of Case:	"Jamie Nelson was wrongly convicted in 1996 of sexual assault, forcible confinement and uttering death threats against a girl-friend of his ex-wife. Nelson's alibi defense was that on the night of his alleged assault against the woman in Ottawa, he was about 30 miles from the crime scene, home with his wife and young child in a village between Ottawa and Cornwall. Jamie Nelson's was sentenced to 6-1/2 years in prison, but he was paroled after more than three years imprisonment. Two years after Nelson's release, he was acquitted by the Court of Appeal on August 20, 2001 based on proof that the crime had never occurred. Nelson had amassed sufficient proof that the woman had fabricated the story of her rape and assault. Nelson spent more than three years in custody, including the time he spent in pre-trial custody. In 2002 his accuser was convicted of threatening to kill an ex-boyfriend. In 2004 Nelson abandoned his effort to be awarded compensation."
