Summary of Case:	"Tran Hong Nguyen was wrongly convicted in 2011 of raping a 7-year-old girl in August 2011 in Vietnam's Ca Mau Province. Nguyen was arrested two days after his neighbors reported to police that he raped their daughter. Nguyen's prosecution was based on his neighbors accusation, and after his conviction Nguyen was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Nguyen appealed, and in 2013 the appeals court in Ho Chi Minh City ordered a fresh investigation of his case. As a result of the reinvestigation of the case, in July 2014 Nguyen's conviction was overturned and he was released after 2 years and 11 months in custody. On June 10, 2016, Tran Trong Huu, the Deputy head of the Ca Mau Court announced that Nguyen was being awarded VND669 million for his 1,077 days in custody (US$29,957.12 at exchange rate on 6-10-16 of VND22331.92174 VND to US$1). Huu said that Nguyen's case is a “precious lesson” for judges, and he promised “more careful ruling” in the future."
