Summary of Case:	"Johny Nongtynger was wrongly convicted on July 25, 2014 of raping his former live-in girlfriend on December 7, 2007 in Shallang in West Hills, Meghalaya, India. At the time she reported being raped she was examined at the Ganesh Das Hospital, but no evidence of a rape was found. The examining doctor did find an old injury. Nongtynger was a cook with the police battalion at Shallang. During his trial there was testimony that five months before alleging she was raped that the woman had eloped with Nongtynger and she was pregnant with his child. A defense witness corroborated that the woman and Nongtynger had cohabitated. After his conviction by a fast track court, Nongtynger was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment.On September 13, 2018 the High Court of Meghalaya set-aside Nongtynger's conviction on the basis the prosecution presented insufficient evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. In their ruling, Chief Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Judge SR Sen stated: "Therefore, we could not understand where the question of rape comes and the circumstances which arise here create only a bunch of doubts.""
