"Wrongly convicted in 1980 of sexual assault in Fergus, Ontario based on the erroneous identification by the victim. The woman, who was Richard Norris' neighbor, was actually assaulted by a friend of Norris. Norris was sentenced to 23 months in prison and he was released after 8 months, 10 days of imprisonment. The acquaintance admitted he had committed the crime, and Norris was acquitted in 1991 by the Ontario Court of Appeals. Norris was awarded compensation of $507,000 in 1993."
