Summary of Case:

"Matthew Norwood was wrongly convicted in 1995 when he was 15, of a carjacking. Norwood was released on parole in 2007. On October 7, 2010, Norwood conviction was vacated based on a reinvestigation of his case by the Hinds County District Attorney's Office, which discovered new evidence he did not commit the crime. The District Attorney's Office supported vacating Norwood's conviction, and the charges were dismised on October 6, 2010. Norwood was wrongly imprisoned for more than 12 years. He was to receive $500,000 in compensation under Mississippi's state compensation statute in 10 annual payments of $50,000. "
