Summary of Case: |
"Arthur J. O'Connell was wrongly convicted of sexual assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Boston in May 1935. The jury convicted the 36-year-old O'Connell based on the testimony of the alleged victim and her 13-year-old girlfriend who testified she witnessed the assault. O'Connell was sentenced to 8 to 12 years in prison. A month after his conviction the girl's confessed to the police that O'Connell had merely stopped to talk to the girls, and they had made up the story about the assault "just for fun."
