"William O'Donnell was convicted in February 1886 of lascivious cohabitation -- living with a woman who had his child without being married -- in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. After his conviction O'Donnell was sentenced to two years in prison. After O'Connell's imprisonment he and the woman were married, and the District Attorney for Plymouth County recommeded his pardon. On July 29, 1886 William O'Donnell was granted a full pardon by Massachusetts Governor Benjamin F. Butler based on the new evidence that he had married the woman with whom he had a child." |
