"H. G. Olney was wrongly convicted in 1925 in federal court of mail fraud and conspiracy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After his conviction by a jury Olney appealed. On September 7, 1926 the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Olney's conviction on the basis the prosecution failed to introduce sufficient evidence to prove his guilt because the substantive evidence was as consistent with his innocence as his guilt."
