Summary of Case: |
"Roger Lee Olsen was wrongly convicted on August 31, 2006 of 12 counts of first and second degree criminal sexual conduct involving a female under the age of 16 in Houston County, Minnesota between August 1, 2002, and May 31, 2004. Olsen was charged on February 22, 2006 based on an accusation by a former stepdaughter. After his conviction by a jury, Roger Olsen was sentenced on December 13, 2006 to a total of 16 years in prison, and 8 years on supervised release. A post-conviction investigation by Houston County authorities found evidence that Olsen's accuser fabricated the story, and Olsen's conviction was vacated and he was released in 2008 after two years in prison. On February 10, 2016 it was announced that Olsen would receive $475,000 in compensation from the State of Minnesota. Olsen was one of three men who would be the first to receive compensation under Minnesota's wrongful imprisonment compensation law enacted in 2014." |
