Summary of Case:

"Masaya Omichi was wrongly convicted of murdering his 5-month old son who died in Osaka, Japan in February 2008. His son died as the consequences of a brain injury, and the only evidence relied on by the trial judge to find Omichi guilty was that he didn't immediately call the police after when it was estimated his son experienced his injury. Omichi denied harming his son and the trial court didn't take into consideration the infant could have accidentally struck his head. Omichi was sentenced to 15 years in prison. On April 30, 2014 the Osaka High Court overturned Omichi's conviction on the basis insufficient evidence supported his guilt, and ordered his immediate release from prison. Omichi was released later that day after 6 years and 2 months in custody."
