Ronald Onofre was wrongly convicted in October 1978 of sodomy for having consensual sex with a 17-year-old boy in 1977. ONofre was sentenced to one year probation. In December 1980 New York's Court of Appeals vacated Ronald Onofre's sodomy conviction in ruling that New York's consensual sodomy law was unconstitutional because it prohibited anal or oral sex between unmarried adults.
