"Edward Oscar was wrongly convicted in 1948 by a jury in Kansas City, Missouri of attempted rape of an 11-year-old girl based on the testimony of the alleged victim. Oscar was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Five years later the alleged victim confessed to authorities in 1953 that she committed perjury because Oscar had not raped her. Based on the new evidence of the alleged victim's recantation proving that no crime had been committed Oscar's conviction was set aside, his indictment dismissed, and he was released from prison in March 1953. Oscar was not awarded any compensation for his five years of wrongful imprisonment."
