"Sachin Chandrakant Parab and his father, mother and sister who were his codefendants, were wrongly convicted in July 2015 of domestic violence, criminal breach of trust and common intention related to alleged mistreatment of Parab's wife, Sayali, in Mumbai, India. After their conviction Sachin Parab and his three codefendants were sentenced to three months imprisonement. The four defendants appealed. While their appeal was pending Parab's wife withdrew her complaint and filed an Affidavit on December 14, 2016 that she had "no objection" to quashing the proceedings against her husband and her in-laws. On July 10, 2017 the marriage between Parab and his wife was dissolved under the Hindu Marriage Act. During a hearing in the Bombay High Court Parab's wife appeared in court and told the judges that the dispute between herself and her family had been settled amicably Sayali appeared and told the judges that the dispute between herself and her family had been settled amicably. On July 17, 2017 the Bombay High Court quashed the convictions of Sachin Parab and his three codefendants. The Court's ruling stated that quashing of the criminal charges was in the interest of Parab's former wife, and "“Besides all this, no purpose would be served by keeping the criminal proceedings pending except burdening the criminal courts which are already over-burdened. In that view of the matter and in the interests of justice, the judgement and order of conviction is quashed and set aside.""
