Summary of Case:	"Mehbub Ali Yusuf Mohammed Patel was wrongly convicted in 2005 of committing dacoity (banditry) along with two accomplices July 2001 in India. Patel's arrest in August 2001 was based on the eyewitness identification of one of the victims. The testimony of the victim, Gangji Gala, was relied on for Patel's conviction, after which he was sentenced to eight years in prison. Patel was released from prison in early 2015 after completing his sentence. Patel appealed his conviction to the high court. In November 2015 the Bombay High Court overturned Patel's conviction and acquitted him based on insufficient evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Justice Abhay Thipsay stated in the Court's ruling: "This was a case where the possibility of the appellant being guilty was no more than the possibility of his being innocent. In criminal trials, the guilt of an accused is required to be proved beyond reasonable doubt. In my opinion the trial judge should have given the benefit of doubt that arises out of the evidence adduced during the trial to the appellant, and should have acquitted him. A weak piece of evidence cannot support another weak piece of evidence.""
