Summary of Case:

"Norfolk, Virginia Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Catherine Marie Paxson was held in criminal contempt of court on January 7, 2014 by District Court Judge S. Clark Daugherty when she was more than an hour late for a hearing. When Paxson appeared she explained that she had been attending to a "brief matter in circuit court." Judge Daugherty considered Paxon's extended lateness inexcusable in finding her in contempt of court and fining her $250. Paxson appealed her conviction. Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney Earle C. Mobley was called in as a special prosecutor and he filed a motion to dismiss the conviction with prejudice. On February 7, 2014 Circuit Court Judge Charles E. Poston granted the motion overturning Paxon's contempt conviction 15 seconds after the hearing of Mobley's motion began, without making any comment and without hearing any arguments. Paxson graduated in 2010 from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia."
