Summary of Case:

"Patience Paye was wrongly convicted in 2013 of public intoxication in Waterloo, Iowa. Paye was arrested and charged with public intoxication after the police responded to a domestic violence call she made just before midnight on June 22, 2013, and she went onto the front porch of her house to talk with them becasue she didn't want to disturb her children in the house. The officers who responded received her permission to perform a breathalyzer test that showed her alcohol level was .267. Paye's defense was the front porch of her house was private property, so she was illegally arrested for public intoxication. On June 12, 2015 the Iowa Supreme Court reversed Patience Paye's conviction on the basis her front porch was not a public place, so she was erroneously convicted of being intoxicated in public. The Court remanded to the trial court and ordered dismissal of the charge."
