"Raymond Grant Pedrana was wrongly convicted on May 24, 1990 of a home robbery committed in Dharruk on May 12, 1988. Pedrana was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the robbery, and he confessed after being physically mistreated by the interrogating officers. Pedrana was sentenced to serve a minimum of 5 years in prison, After Pedrana had served his sentence corruption involving the officers involved in his interrogation came to light. Pedrana filed a fresh appeal based on the new evidence supporting his confession was in fact coerced. On March 23. 2001 the New South Wales Criminal Court of Appeals quashed Pedrana's conviction and ordered his acquittal."
