Summary of Case:	"Vanessa Perez was wrongly convicted on March 10, 2015 of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance in Houston, Texas. Perez' prosecution was based on the seizure by police of a bottle they alleged contained liquid codeine. After the 17-year-old Perez pled guilty she was sentenced to 30 days in the Harris County Jail. After Perez' sentencing the liquid was tested by the Houston police crime laboratory which found it wasn't a controlled substance. Perez' attorney was contacted about the lab results by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit, and almost a year later her lawyer filed a motion in Februayr 2016 to withdraw her guilty plea and vacate her conviction. Without opposition by the DA's Office, the motion withdrawing her guilty plea and vacating her conviction was granted on March 3, 2016, and the charge was dismissed."
