"A reporter wrongly convicted of contempt for failing to reveal his sources for a news story, during a trial. Ken Peters, a reporter for The Hamilton Spectator was fined $31,600 (CAN). On March 17, 2008, the Ontario Court of Appeal overturned Peters conviction. The Court recognized that forcing journalists to reveal sources has a “chilling effect” on news gathering and that efforts must to made to “minimize the impact” contempt rulings have on a reporter’s constitutional rights."
