Summary of Case:	"Justin Piapot was wrongly convicted in July 2011 of assault causing bodily harm when in the course of defending himself against a man who attacked him with a Samurai sword he knocked the man down and the man suffered brain damage. Piapot was 21 at the time he was attacked on January, 28, 2010. After his conviction by a bench (judge only) trial Piapot was sentenced to 7 years in prison after the judge designated him a long-term offender. In January 2014 the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal unanimously reversed Piapot's convictions and acquitted him on the basis the injuries occurred to the sword wielding man while Piapot was defending himself. Justice Richards wrote in the opinion, "I find myself unable to accept the trial judge’s assessment that Mr. (Jerry) Gray posed no threat to Mr. Piapot.""
