"Johann Ernst Siegfried Pohl was wrongly convicted in New South Wales in 1973 for the murder of his wife, Kum Yee "Joyce" Pohl. Johann, known by his nickname of Ziggy Pohl was sentenced to life in prison, Pohl was released on parole in 1983 after 10 years of imprisonment. On September 8, 1990, Roger Graham Bawden walked into the Queanbeyan police station and confessed to the murder of which Mr. Pohl had been convicted. Pohl was later exonerated by a special judicial inquiry. He was granted an unconditional pardon on May 27, 1992, In April 1993 NSW awarded Ziggy Pohl ex gratia compensation of $200,000 for his 10 years of wrongful imprisonment." |
