"Eric Proctor and Christopher Boots were codefendants wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Both men were framed by Springfield, Oregon police in retaliation for filing a wrongful imprisonment suit for being falsely accused of the murder of a 7-11 clerk, which crime they were then charged with and convicted of committing. Proctor and Boots were exonerated by the real killer's confession in a recorded conversation with a police informant that was corroborated by DNA from crime scene evidence that matched him. The men filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Springfield and several police officers, that was settled for a payment of $1 million to each man."
