Summary of Case: |
"David Jonathan Quindt was wrongly convicted of murdering of murdering an 18 year old young man on Oct 6, 1998 during the robbery of a house where marijuana was grown. Convicted solely on the word of a 15 year old girl that witnessed the shooting. A known police informant called the prosecutor after Quindt's conviction but before his sentencing and told him that Quindt didn't commit the murder. The informant gave the prosecutor the names of four people involved in the murder. The informant was motivated by a $10,000 reward offered by the dead man's family for information leading to conviction of his killers. The informant's information checked out and the four men were subsequently prosecuted and convicted of being involved in the murder. Quindt's alleged accomplice, 17-year-old Anthony Salcedo was also mis-identified. Alacedo was described by the prosecutor as a vicious "marijuana broker before being released prior to his trial. Quindt's conviction was vacated and he was released on May 22, 2000. On December 23, 2002 David J. Quindt was awarded $17,200 in compensation by California's Victim's Claims Board for his 172 days of incarceration after his conviction." |
