Summary of Case:

"Raeleen Matewai Noyle Rameka was wrongly convicted of murder in 2009 in the beating death of Paul Kumeroa in Whanganui, New Zealand on September 25, 2008. Rameka was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum prison term of 10 years 6 months. Rameka was one of four codefendants convicted in the murder. In 2014 the Supreme Court of New Zealand quashed the convictions of Rameka and her codefendant Jamie Ngahuia Ahsin based on errors by the trial judge, and ordered their retrial. In 2015 Ahsin pled guilty to manslaughter. Rameka insisted she was innocent,and after her retrial a jury acquitted her on April 18, 2016."
