Summary of Case:

"Abdul Haq, Kashif, Muhammad Saleem, Rashid Ali and Ali Raza were codefendants wrongly convicted on May 9, 2017 by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi, Pakistan of possessing illicit arms and explosives. The prosecution of the five men was based on their arrest in 2014 the New Karachi Industrial Area by police who claimed they were found in possession of arms and explosives, which the prosecution argued they were going to use in planned terror attacks. The defense of the five defendants was that their prosecution was a fake criminal case because no arms and explosives were found in their possession. After their convictions Haq and Raza were sentenced to 14 years in prison, Kashif was sentenced to eight years in prison, and Saleem AKA Muhammad Salim and Rashid Ali AKA Arshad were sentenced to one year imprisonment. The five defendants appealed. On September 12, 2017 the Sindh High Court set aside the convictions of Abdul Haq, Kashif, Muhammad Saleem, Rashid Ali and Ali Raza based on the prosecution introducing insufficient evidence of their guilt. The High Court ordered the men's immediate release if their custody was not required in any other case."
