Summary of Case:	"Johnny Reeves was wrongly convicted in 1989 of raping his 8-year-old niece in 1988 at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Reeves prosecution was based on the testimony of his niece. After his conviction by a jury Reeves was sentenced to 15 to 50 years in prison. The girl recanted her testimony three years later to police in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee where she was then living, but it wasn't until 1998 that she gave a sworn affidavit in Cincinnati that was the basis for Reeves motion for a new trial. During the post-conviction hearing the girl, then 18, testified on July 15, 1999 that it was her father who raped her and his threats forced her to falsely claim Reeves was her rapist. The judge found the girl credible and vacated Reeves' conviction. Reeves' was immediately released on bond, and on August 25, 1999 a motion by the Hamilton County DA's Office to dismiss the charge was granted. Reeves filed a complaint for compensation with the Ohio Court of Claims on August 7, 2000. On April 3, 2001 Reeves was awarded compensation of $387,387.97 for his 3,478 days of wrongful incarceration. Reeves died of a heart attack in February 2001."
