"Kash Delano Register was wrongly convicted in 1979 of first-degree murder and robbery in Los Angeles, California. Kash Register was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Register was released and the charges dismissed after more than 34-1/2 years in custody. Register filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles and police officers involved in his prosecution. In January 2016 Los Angeles agreed to settle the lawsuit for $16.7 million. Register was represented in his civil suit by the New York City lawfirm of Neufeld Scheck & Brustin, LLP. Two of the partners in NS&B are Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld, co-founders of the non-profit Innocence Project in New York."
