"Mark Reid was wrongly convicted on November 10, 1997 of the November 8, 1996 kidnapping and rape of a woman in Hartford, Connecticut. The victim, a white woman identified Reid, a light skinned black man, as her assailant. The jury relied on the victim's testimony and the testimony of a hair analyst that a foreign pubic hairs found on the victim was of Negroid origin and they matched Reid to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty. Reid was exonerated in 1993 by DNA testing of a pubic hair recovered from the victim that was identified as originating from a Caucasian. " |
