Summary of Case:

"Piero Ricca was wrongly convicted in 2005 of insulting Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi in May 2003, in response to Berlusconi's support for tailor-made legislation that shielded him from a judgement in a judge-bribing case. Piero Ricca was fined 516 euros, but not sentenced to any jail time. Italy's highest appeals court -- The Cassation Court -- ruled that criticizing public figures is a 'crucial' social right. "
