Summary of Case:	"Ronald Louis Richards was wrongly convicted in February 2014 of bribery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2008 Richards was a security manager of a tobacco company, and the prosecution alleged that on June 17, 2008 he received RM20,000 in kickbacks for renewal of a contract provided by JT International in Shah Alam for security services. Richards defense was that the money was a loan for the purpose of financing his son's lessons for a pilot licence. After his conviction in the Sessions Court, Richards was sentenced to 15-months in jail and payment of a RM100,00 fine. On December 11, 2015 the High Court in Kuala Lumpur overturned Richard's conviction in ruling that the money obtained by him was not a bribe, but a friendly loan that was repaid by his son. The Court stated: "The court is of the view that there was a misdirection of facts in the decision made by the Sessions Court judge and it is not safe to uphold the conviction.""
