Summary of Case:

Alexander Ripan was wrongly convicted of first-degree murder in 1919 and sentenced ot life in prison. Ripan escaped from prison in 1929 after 10 years of wrongful imprisonment. Ripan was captured in 1935. A prosecutor became convinced of Ripan's innocence and helped him obtain a new trial based on a ballistic experts analysis based on techniques not available at the time of his 1919 trial proving that the bullet that killed the victim could not have come from Ripan's gun. Ripan was acquitted in 1939 after his retrial. Ripan was imprisoned for a total of 14 years.
