Summary of Case: |
"Gorman Roberts Jr. was 17 when wrongly convicted in 2002 of manslaughter in the drowning death of a 5-year-old boy in Broward County, Florida in February 2002. Roberts' conviction was based on his statement to police, although he didn't admit to pushing the boy into the canal, but only being present and horsing around with the boy and two 10-year-old boys. The two boys testified as witnesses for the state. Roberts' conviction was overturned in 2004 by Florida's Court of Appeals that ruled the Miranda warning given to him by police was defective and therefore his statement wasn't admissible." |
