Summary of Case:	"Carlos Rojas was wrongly convicted in 1990 of being a drug runner. The government's sole witness was an informant who was paid $245,000 to provide evidence against Carlos Rojas. However Rojas attorney was told that the informant was being paid $5,000. Faced with a much longer prison sentence if he went to trial and was convicted, Rojas pled guilty. However all charges were dropped against Rojas in March 2002 when the prosecution's payments to the informant came to light. US District Judge Richard Vollmer determined that the concealment of the payments that gave the witness strong incentive to lie and provide the prosecution with whatever information it wanted to secure a conviction made Rojas' conviction unsafe. The prosecutors agreed to drop the charges after Rojas agreed not to sue the government. Rojas was subsequently deported to his native Colombia."
