"Lafonso Rollins, was wrongly convicted of rape in 1994 based on his confession that he recanted as coerced. Based on post-conviction DNA tests that excluded Rollins as the assailant his conviction was vacated on July 12, 2004 and without opposition by the Cook County State's Attorney his charge was dismissed and he was released. Rollins was pardoned by Illinois' governor on January 5, 2005. Rollins was awarded $145,837 by the Illinois Court of Claims, and he settled his civil rights lawsuit against the City of Chicago for $9 million on January 27, 2006."
