"Desmond Ryan was co-defendant of Dermot Laide. The two men were wrongly convicted in February 2004 of violent disorder in the March 2000 death of fellow student Brian Murphy at Ireland's Blackrock College, during in a violent fracas outside Club Anabel at Dublin's Burlington Hotel. Desmond Ryan was sentenced to two years imprisonment. Ryan's conviction was quashed on appeal on February 24, 2005. Ryan served 12 months imprisonment."
