Summary of Case:

"Setaimata Sa was wrongly convicted after a three-day trial in 2008 of recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm on a man during a February 2008 brawl in Wollongong, Australia. Sa contended he landed a single blow to a man in self-defense after the man had "shouldered" him. Sa testifed he entered the melee to aid a teammate and to act as a "peacemaker." Sa, a professional rugby player with the Sydney Roosters, was convicted and sentenced to 250 hours of community service. Sa appealed and his conviction was overturned on September 25, 2009 by Wollongong District Court Judge Paul Conlon, on the basis that Sa had acted reasonably in self-defense."
