Summary of Case:	"M. Sadasivam was wrongly convicted on October 24, 2000 of two counts of corruption in Pudukkottai, India. Sadasivam's prosecution was based on a complaint filed on July 21, 1994 by a fisherman that Sadasivam solicited a bribe. Sadasivam's defense was the money he sought was towards the fisherman's premium under the Peerless Insurance Scheme. After his conviction Sadasivam was sentenced to a total of two years in prison and payment of a Rs. 5000 fine. Sadasivam appealed. On October 7, 2009 the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court set-aside Sadasivam's convictions on the basis the prosecution presented insufficient evidence to prove Sadasivam's guilt because no evidence was presented corroborating the fisherman's account. The Court's ruling stated: "... the trial Court is wrong in holding that the prosecution has to prove the offences beyond reasonable doubt and the conviction and sentence are liable to be set-aside.""
