Summary of Case:	"Sam Safuli was co-defendant of Snowden Jiya. Safuli was wrongly convicted of aiding the theft of money while he was Malawi's Principal Secretary for Education. Sam Safuli was convicted of authorising payment of a K100,000 cheque to a building contractor in a K187 million education scam. Malawi's Supreme Court quashed his conviction, because there was no evidence he knew the check was not for legitimate work that had been performed. The Court's ruling stated, "A person who does not know what the other person is doing cannot be convicted of aiding and abetting. [Safuli] was just one of the four signatories to the cheque and one of the two authorised to open it.
